BÆREDYGTIGHED – Når nu udvekslingsrejserne i Erasmus-regi må udsættes på grund af coronaepidemien, hvorfor så ikke studere bæredygtighed på Fanø?
Som tænkt, så gjort. På en af septembers mange solrige dage tog 9. klasse fra Aura Skolen Bryndum på cykel via færgen til Sønderho på Fanø, hvor Peter Michélsen fra Ren Strand Fanø stod klar for at fortælle dem om sit livsværk.
Har to fonde i ryggen
Med en forening og to fonde i ryggen, Velux Fonden og Lauritzen Fonden, sørger han for at indsamle de rød-hvide poser, man for eksempel kan tage i en stander ved Fanø Bad og lægge et synligt sted på stranden, når man har fyldt med affald, især plastik, der ikke forgår.
Som den gode fortæller han er, fangede han hurtigt deres interesse.
”Det her er resterne af en vejrballon af gummi og den faldskærm af nylon, der lod den svæve ned, da ballonen revnede. Og her er et hylster med en printplade med en sender, som ikke genbruges. Og på den sidder der to AA-batterier. De balloner opsendes der 1600 af hvert døgn året rundt, selv om de tusindvis af fly, der letter og lander hver dag, kunne levere de data uden problemer. Det er næsten 1,2 millioner batterier om året,” sagde han.
Han fortalte også om dunke med bremsevæske fra 1966, han for nylig fandt.
”Dem sporede jeg tilbage til BP. Det var de ikke stolte af,” sagde den stædige miljøforkæmper, der bruger masser af tid på at opspore, hvor balloner, dunke, gummihandsker og alt muligt andet strandaffald kommer fra.
Eleverne fra Bryndum cyklede efter foredraget til stranden. hvor de indsamlede affald.
Opsporede synderen
”Og de oliedunke her fandt jeg en morgen. Så gik jeg på Vessel Finder og så, at en Esbjerg-kutter havde ligget stille derude i tre timer med slukket motor, nok for at skifte olie på motoren. Jeg tog så dunkene til Esbjerg, fandt kutteren og skipperen og spurgte, om det var hans dunke. Han blev meget gal. Men en dag kom han cyklende her forbi, standsede og sagde: ”Der gav du mig godt nok en øjenåbner.”
William Lüthjohan var især overrasket over, at folk smed affald ud i havet uden at tænke over konsekvenserne.
På stranden gik William Lüthjohan som den første i gang med at samle op.
”Det er godt nok overraskende, at folk ikke tænker over konsekvenserne ved at smide affald i havet,” bemærker han.
